Eco Hiking Trails in the Pacific

Hiking trails anywhere in the world should be the ones which have been used by previous inhabitants and in the Pacific region those created by the islanders are the ones to follow. Any environmentally conscious traveller will be keen to point out that the routes taken by the responsible eco trekker are much the same as the ones used by locals.

Sometimes its animals that have created a trail and that can be quite an adventure in itself. Knowing that you are following the tracks of a local animal is quite exciting especially if it is know to be something large and maybe a little scary. Hr eco having a local person to lead and guide a eco hiking trip is important as they know the trails, and can take you into areas which the outsider would not know about. Local knowledge is also important in providing information on what to keep clear of and what you can eat, or more importantly, not eat on your eco hiking trail.

On the Pacific islands there are trails which go deep into the rainforest, and traverse deep ravines, cross waterfalls and climb mountains. These are places which remain rich in thick lush vegetation and it really does need a person with local knowledge to guide the party. Climbing through the steamy rainforest will be rewarded with the most fantastic views and sights as the island is laid out before you, and you realize you have climbed the side of a high volcano!
